WHY WAIT? gives African youth sensible reasons to abstain from sex and other risky behaviors.
WHY WAIT? helps them understand the human needs for a sense of belonging and a sense that their life has meaning, Thus, the following truths and values guide the curriculum:
Human dignity comes from being created in God's image
Family relationships reflect God's character
God's love embodies provision and protection

Spanning Grades 5 through 12, the powerful WHY WAIT? Truth for Youth Curriculum has since its inception brought to more than 400,000 African youth a brighter future through biblically-based life skills training and character development!
In 1993, at the request of the Malawi Ministry of Education, Sub-Saharan Africa Family Enrichment (SAFE) began developing a life skills curriculum, WHY WAIT?, for implementation by trained teachers in government primary and secondary schools throughout the country. Today, African youth are receiving the best “ABCs” rooted in Abstinence, Be faithful in marriage, and Character (Christ-like character in every aspect of their lives).
Wherever the WHY WAIT? Curriculum has been introduced, teachers’ and students’ lives have been changed, and schools have seen dramatically reduced dropout rates due to pregnancy or early marriage as well as rising test scores and pass rates.
Moira Chimombo and Cathy Cheonga, teamed up to conduct SAFE’s 4-year, Why Wait? Life Skills curriculum training for 100 teachers from 12 private secondary schools in Zomba and Machinga districts. These teachers will be impacting the lives of thousands of students in their classrooms with this Biblical worldview training!
It is encouraging to hear student stories about how WHY WAIT? has impacted their lives—a student from Songani Primary School:
“My name is Tadala Mussa, I am 13 years old. I never used to like coming to school, I would usually sneak out of class especially on Mondays and Thursdays with my friends since these are market days at Songani. Our school is just a stone throw away from the market, we were just roaming around through the markets and sometimes steal some fruits. One day our teacher was teaching WHY WAIT? Life Skills on the consequences of disobedience.
I was convicted in my heart because I remember, we were nearly caught at the market one day when one of my friends stole a toy. I had been a disobedient daughter to my parents, I felt bad. When I went back home I cried in my room and prayed that God should forgive me, now am changed. I obey my parents and teachers, am improving in my grades and I know I will go to STD 6 in September.” This is all because of WHY WAIT? Life Skills lessons which are being taught at our school.
